Millionaire Status and Ivory Jacket Officially Up For Grabs!

July 1st, 2009 | by admin |

It seems like just yesterday I was at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas taking part in a ceremony where NFL legend Jerry Rice was fitting Shane Schroeder of Ft. Collins CO with the Open Championship’s Ivory Jacket, and then presenting him with ONE MILLION DOLLARS in cash – immediately making Shane fantasy football’s first ever million dollar winner.

With the launch of the first main event drafts earlier today, the 2009 FFOC season is officially in full swing. Believe it or not this did not represent the start of the draft season in the FFOC, as the month of June saw hundreds of teams participate in our new Q School drafts. Yes – I know what you are think: “Who drafts a fantasy football team in June???”. The answer my friends is FFOC Q Schoolers.

Q School seems to be one of the big stories to have hit the fantasy football world this summer. Our 2008 game saw players have of winning the largest prize in fantasy football history – ONE MILLION DOLLARS for an entry fee of $125. This year with the introduction of FFOC Q School, players now have a chance of becoming a millionaire for just $10. I will talk more about some of the new things we added to our game in future blogs, but for now I want to keep it short and sweet.

As this is my first blog of the season, proper protocol calls for me to formally welcome all of you to the 2nd season of the Open Championship for fantasy football. I speak on behalf of all my colleagues at the FFOC and at Fanball when I say that we are really excited about the 2009 season. Registration is significantly ahead of our 2008 pace, the message boards are really starting to heat up with new and veteran players, and drafting is officially in full swing.

Speaking of drafts, I’m obligated to throw out a cautionary advance apology to everybody who will own Adrian Peterson this year. You see, AP was the first player selected in each of the drafts that took place earlier this morning in the FFOC Draft Rooms. Nobody knows for sure if there is an official curse, but the first player taken in the first draft of 2008 was Tom Brady. Well, just under 7,000 players in The Open and about 20,000,000 others all over the fantasy football world know how his season turned out. Time will tell, but if the oft injured AP goes down for an extended period this year, I think it’s safe to say that players will be hoping to draw the #2 pick in the 2010 Open Championship draft rooms!

Good luck to all of you that are lined up to draft for the rest of this month. Don’t forget that THE OPEN offers a special prize pool to those who draft in July. As well, don’t forget that there is an easy way to play for FREE this year simply by referring friends to join and compete for the FFOC’s Ivory Jacket.

All for now…the race to become the next fantasy football MILLIONAIRE is officially on!
